History

First Presbyterian Church was founded on Pentecost Sunday in 1887. The gathering for organization had to be put off to late in the day as the men of the church, including the pastor, headed west to fight a fast spreading prairie fire that threatened the town. Over more than a century twenty seven pastors have served the congregation in three locations.

Denomination

We are a member church in the Presbyterian Church (USA). We minister within the bounds of the Synod of the Rocky Mountains and the Presbytery of Plains and Peaks. Our constitution is in two volumes: The Book of Confessions which includes a number of history creeds, confessions, and catechisms. The Book of Order which is a statement of our government, worship life, and church discipline.
